The Design of Everyday Things

The Design of Everyday Things

How did you get started in your role as a designer?

My journey into design began with higher vocational education. After gaining substantial leadership and project management experience, I transitioned into the design field where I could merge my analytical skills and creative passions.

Formal education in UX design at YRGO in Gothenburg provided the foundation, while hands-on roles allowed me to apply and hone my skills in real-world settings.

What are the responsibilities of your role as a designer?

As a product designer, my responsibilities are multifaceted. They include understanding and defining user needs conceptualizing and developing design solutions, and creating high-fidelity UI designs.

I conduct user research, build wireframes and prototypes, and engage in usability testing to ensure designs meet user expectations. Collaboration with stakeholders and developers is key, ensuring that designs are both innovative and technically feasible.

Additionally, I focus on enhancing accessibility, making sure that our designs are inclusive for all users. At Orbi, I also help create sales concepts that assist the sales team in selling different solutions to Orbi's business customers.

How do you incorporate the apps in your design process?

I use Figma for everything, from initial wireframes to high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes. It allows for seamless real-time collaboration with stakeholders and team members.

For creating animations and video content, such as tutorials or website video "images," I rely on Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere. These tools enable me to produce high-quality visual content that enhances the overall user experience.

What advice would you give to your younger self trying to get into the field of design?

I would tell my younger self to embrace curiosity and never stop learning. Focus on understanding users deeply and always seek feedback. Collaboration is key, so build strong relationships with developers, stakeholders, and other designers.

Lastly, don't be afraid to take risks and experiment with new ideas.

Do you have any regrets in your journey in becoming a designer?

I have no major regrets, as each experience has been a valuable lesson. However, my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier, because I absolutely love this field. Every challenge has only strengthened my resolve and passion for creating impactful user experiences, and I find immense joy and fulfillment in my work as a designer.

As a designer how do you stay inspired?

Inspiration comes from various sources. Staying curious and continuously exploring new technologies and design trends keeps my ideas fresh. Engaging with the design community through events, forums, and social media provides new perspectives.

Additionally, my love for outdoor adventures, culinary experiences, cinema, and video games offers a wellspring of creative ideas, reminding me to view the world through different lenses and apply those insights to my work.
